Popcorn with colored-kernels are more common than you might think. Here at Sweet Magic Popcorn, we offer Blue Popcorn, Red Popcorn, Purple Popcorn and Mushroom Popcorn. We also offer Rainbow Popcorn which is a combo of Red, Blue, and Purple Popcorn, as well as some white and yellow kernels.

The colors of all of these varieties make them attractive choices, but remember that while our uniquely-colored popcorn kernel varieties have a colored kernel, they will be white or yellow once popped. For popped popcorn to be colored, the kernels need to be dyed beforehand, and we do not use dyes or preservatives.

In addition to their strikingly different appearances, they each have distinct flavors as well. Our Blue Popcorn often has a slightly sweet taste, more pronounced than that of traditional yellow or white popcorn. Our Purple Popcorn is known for its mild flavor and our Red Popcorn has a slightly sweeter taste compared to the others.

The most obvious difference is their color, and their kernels are not the only things that are different colors. Unlike the colored-kernel popcorn, the popped piece of popcorn is the same color as the kernel.

The flavor difference is often the deciding factor when choosing between white and yellow popcorn. Yellow popcorn has a much more robust flavor when compared to white popcorn. The flavor is buttery, whereas white popcorn is neutral and mild and starts as more of a blank canvas to add the flavor you desire. Because of yellow popcorn’s buttery taste, it is the go-to when making movie theater-style popcorn — all you need to do is add butter and salt. Both are delicious, and the decision between the two ultimately comes down to personal preference and what type of snack you are looking for.

The sizes of yellow popcorn and white popcorn can vary, but the textures often remain the same. Yellow popcorn has a denser kernel shell or hull, so it is chewier and has the satisfying popcorn crunch when you bite into it.

Sweet Magic Popcorn’s white popcorn varieties are all hulless, so they have a thin kernel shell, which contributes heavily to the mouthfeel experience. Because of the hullessness, it has a much more tender and delicate feel. Instead of an intense crunch, it has a melt-in-your-mouth quality and is much easier on those who have sensitive teeth.
